Vegetarian Restaurant Review – Canteen, Cardiff UK
Monday, October 3rd, 2011Canteen has been up and running for about five years now in the centre of Cardiff and is a bit of a mecca for veggie food lovers in Wales. Offering exceptional value for money and the best vegetarian food in both Cardiff and indeed in Wales, Canteen is a charming little restaurant. The chefs and the waiting staff are all really friendly and the atmosphere is welcoming and unpretentious.
And the food? In a word – amazing. If you get a chance to visit, make sure you stst off with the beetroot and walnut salad, which is refreshing and delicate and gives you just enough to get you in the mood for your main menu. Also recommended are the mushroom wantons. For mains there are all kinds of delights to choose from but I had the butternut gnocchi which was fantastic – a creative and tasty pasta dish that looked as elegant as it tasted. Finally, to finish I opted for another pasta dish – the chocolate and walnut filled ravioli. This dish shouldn’t work, it screams of an odd pairing of foods, but once it is in your moth those doubts drift away. Delightful.
The music was good, but not too loud that it ruined the meal and the place was buzing – busy and filled with laughter and people really enjoying themselves and the food. Canteen is a real treat and a credit to Cardiff. If you’re in town, make sure you don’t miss it.
